It’s All About Confidence, Baby: Finding Yourself In Motherhood

Based on the photos in this post, I think it’s self-explanatory how long I’ve been working on writing this article. The truth is, each time I come back to write or review it, my brain either goes wild with points to include, or I sit there confused with myself. I have been a mama for over five years now, and honestly, I can’t say I’ve fully “found myself” again – but at the same time, I am completely and utterly fulfilled in every way possible. It’s all a work in progress, and it’s important to accept that.  What Does “Finding Yourself” Really Mean? “Finding yourself” can mean something different for everyone, so don’t feel you have to put yourself in this category. Many of us women who become mothers, become so focused on our children that we simply put ourselves second to the point that we essentially forget who we are/were before having kids.  The reality is; once we have children we will never be the exact same person as we were before them. Not only physically but mentally – there is always another human to think about, care for, feed, etc. By finding yourself, we don’t refer to you…

Refreshing + Rebranding: Producing instead of Promoting

Over the last few weeks, I have taken some time to rebrand and rethink my focus for this space – this was not my intention initially, but the blissful sunny autumn days ended, the holiday rush started, and the cold and flu season hit. I became grounded and drained in the realness of motherhood. None of those stylish outfits came to mind, but rather cozy sweatpants and loungewear – I could not be bothered with hair or makeup, and unapologetically wore the same sweatshirt for a week. There is so much more to my life than fashion (which I love to my core), but I spend 80% of my days reading about parenting psychology and childhood development instead of WWD. It’s time to regroup back to my core, so let’s *insert the Mickey Mouse theme song* and “Mix It Up, Mix It Up – I Can’t Hear You – Mix It Up”.  As per my initial re-introduction, I am not here to produce fluff pieces and those “Instagram-perfect” shots; as pretty as it all may be, our parenting realities go much deeper than that. Let’s agree on a casual mix of both and see how the months flow.   Therefore, rather…

The Rise of Gentle Parenting: Why It’s Gaining Popularity and How to Implement It

If you’ve scrolled through your social media feed lately, you’ve probably come across the term “gentle parenting” more than once. From Instagram reels to TikTok videos, this approach to raising children is taking the parenting world by storm, and for good reason. But what exactly is gentle parenting? And why are so many modern parents gravitating towards it? In today’s post, we’ll dive into what gentle parenting is, why it’s becoming so popular, and how you can start integrating it into your parenting style—without feeling like you need to be perfect. Although we all can agree that we ARE perfect – no matter how you decide to parent, it’s the way that works best for you that’s most important. What is Gentle Parenting? Gentle parenting is an approach that focuses on mutual respect, empathy, and understanding. It involves guiding your child through positive discipline techniques rather than resorting to punishments or threats. The core philosophy behind gentle parenting is the belief that children are inherently good, and that positive, non-coercive guidance will help them learn to regulate their behaviour, make better choices, and build a healthy relationship with their parents. Key principles of gentle parenting include: It’s an approach that…

Christmas Market Day in -18 degrees Celsius Weather is Classic Ottawa Mom Life! #OOTD

Hat – Under ArmourScarf – MangoCoat – Wilfrid Symphony CoatShoes – Zara As we inch closer to the start of the Christmas holidays and the end of the Year, I can’t help but reflect on all the moments of the last few months (and years, to be honest). It amazes me how many things have happened, changed, and evolved – both the positive and negative experiences, as it’s all that has made this time what it is. Without going into my Year In Review post here, I’ve decided to make this an #OOTD post; while I finish working on a little 12 Days of Christmas: Mom Edition Poem I’ve been working on. With the temperatures dropping to -18 degrees Celsius (making that -25 degrees Celsius with the wind chill) our moments outdoors have been limited. Taking the opportunity of a warmer day we visited a local Christmas Market with the kids; which luckily had an indoor and outdoor component. In terms of outfit details, the main focus was on staying warm, so it’s essentially layers of warmth underneath the coat, so not too much to go into there for now as I feel that my cold weather layering instructions deserve…

Follow Fashion, But Do Not Follow Fashion Blindly

The fashion world has taken us for a spin in these last few years with the varying rotations of styles; from fitted dresses to baggy denim, and then back around to the vintage vibes yet modern Kanye fits. How do you follow fashion trends while still maintaining your style and values? How do you shop when the stores you love have such a combination of styles? Use the Fashion World as Inspiration Flip through your favourite fashion magazines such as Vogue or Elle, browse your favourite fashion site, and build an inspiration board either in your mind, on paper (keep a page in your planner for ideas), or electronically (Canva or even Word will do the trick). Make notes of colours, patterns, and outfit ideas and combinations. Write down the brands that catch your attention; you’ll likely want to go back to them for more inspiration later.  Another little activity I’ve always liked to do is find a few “muses” that you can get inspired from. Find someone who has a similar body shape to yours, as well as someone who has the type of style that you like – in a perfect world this would be one person, but…

5 Fashion Pieces I’m Currently Obsessed With #OOTD

Coat – Wilfred, The Only CoatHat – Tommy HilfigerScarf – MangoKnit Vest – ZaraPants – BuffaloBag – ChylakShoes – Louis Vuitton When it comes to my style, I’d say I’ve been around the block and back again in terms of experimenting with different styles and clothes. After many years of this, I feel that I have now found my “uniform” and know what works, what I love, and what to stay away from. I think too, that this all comes with age and experience though – there’s something about the fact some clothes just look better on a younger age group; and vice versa. When it comes to my current “uniform”, especially for the cooler months, there are a few things that I obsess over and wear repeatedly. This is to the extent that I even purchase the same items but in different colours or patterns. A Well-Tailored Wool Coat A well-tailored wool coat is a must-have for warmth and fashion at this point in my life. A wool coat is such a versatile piece that it can be worn both business and casual – with heels, boots, and even running shoes. At a recent Holt Renfrew Fall Preview event…

This Vest is Older than my Marriage #OOTD

Vest – Bought from a local market in Zakopane, PolandKnit Sweater and Jeans – ZaraBag – Lasocki Boots – Django and Juliette  Another beautiful Autumn weekend is behind us, and if it wasn’t for my phone’s gentle reminder that it’s November, I would have to pretend that it’s still September. The weather in Ontario has been greeting us with higher-than-average temperatures, along with sunny blue-sky days. We might even be at that point now where we are scared to talk about how lucky we feel with this weather, just to not jinx it.  Nevertheless, we have been truly blessed with the most wonderful weather this Autumn, and hopefully, these positive attitudes can continue to shine bright through those upcoming cold snowy days. In keeping with my Polish Brands outfit trend (I told you I have many), let’s talk about this #OOTD. This vest is also older than my children; combined. For as long as I can remember, as a child, travelling to Zakopane in Poland was an incredible experience. Zakopane is located in the Polish mountains and is known for having its own Polish-style culture – defined by the dreamy landscapes, warming hearty meals, and natural way of life.  In terms…
